Any Little Thread
04:46
|
|||
I haven't changed my sheets in weeks
I don't want to wash them
'Cause they're the last thing left
That has your scent
And there's an extra toothbrush
In the clear glass on the counter
But I don't throw it out yet
Though the bristles are all bent
There are memories that play out
At the corner of my eyes
Are you the lamppost on the corner?
Or in traffic cop disguise?
I pretend you walk beside me
Down the streets that we traversed
Yeah I could be feeling better
But I could be feeling worse
'Cause you are gone
But I won't move on
I'm still holding on
To any little thread I can wrap
Around my finger
Want you back
I wished you'd linger
But you left
But I'm not letting go yet
I still expect to see you
When I pass by your apartment
My brain just doesn't get that
You're not there
Oh you're the great Houdini
With your handcuffs and straight jacket
And while I was distracted
You up and disappeared
Now I'm picking up the pieces
Of a lie that we both shared
I pretended you weren't leaving
You pretended that you cared
And I know that I have lost you
But I won't admit defeat
Yeah this chapter may have ended
But the book is not complete
'Cause you are gone
But I won't move on
I'm still holding on
To any little thread I can wrap
Around my finger
Want you back
I wished you'd linger
But you left
But I'm not letting go yet
I don't want to give up and just
Join the ranks of The Forgotten
I don't want to be
Just another girl on your list
In your history of lost romances
Mysteries and passionate dances
Sorry, but you took your chances
When you kissed me back
And I don't want to be upset
Or live a life of deep regret
But I enjoyed the time we spent
And I don't want to forget
So I'm not letting go yet
There's no point in rolling over
On a sleepy Sunday morning
'Cause I won't have your arms
To wrap around me
But without you there's no impetus
To get up and get started
'Cause where would I be going
When you're where I want to be
So I'll lie listless under dirty sheets
Stare out at that glass
I'll listen to the silence
And the seconds as they pass
I wonder if I'll ever see you
Well if Destiny is mean
I'll still see you in my memories
And we'll visit in my dreams
'Cause you are gone
But I won't move on
I'm still holding on
To any little thread I can wrap
Around my finger
Want you back
I wished you'd linger
But you left
But I'm not letting go yet

2,226 Miles
05:19
|
|||
I know by the book you're off limits
I know I should leave you alone but I can't
'Cause you make me glow like the sunrise
But you never knew, you never knew
And now you're 2,226 miles away
But who's counting
And now you've given up the sunrise
For the stars on Sunset Blvd.
I wanted to visit Los Angeles
I wanted to walk in the Hollywood Hills
I wanted to talk until morning
But you never knew, you never knew
And now you're 2,226 miles away
But who's counting
And now you've given up the sunrise
For the stars on Sunset Blvd.
So I'll bite my tongue
And I'll wish you well
And I'll keep my secrets
Oh I'll never tell
And I'll send my love
Wherever you go
And I'll wait alone
'Cause you never did know
That I wanted to call you my lover
I wanted to kiss you from dusk until dawn
I wanted to lie naked before you
But you never knew, you never knew
And now you're 2,226 miles away
But who's counting
And now you've given up the sunrise
For the stars on Sunset Blvd.
I wanted to tell you, "I love you"
I know it sounds crazy but my heart won't shut up
I wanted to talk of forever
But you never knew, you never knew
And now you're 2,226 miles away
But who's counting
And now you've given up the sunrise
For the stars on Sunset Blvd.
So I'll bite my tongue
And I'll wish you well
And I'll keep my secrets
Oh I'll never tell
And I'll send my love
Wherever you go
And I'll be alone
'Cause you never did know
But I'm giving up, I am going
Across the Pacific, the other side of the world [different from sung lyric]
And maybe my heart will shut up and shut down
But you'll never know 'cause you don't be around
'Cause now I'm 6,724 miles away
And I'm counting
On distance and passage of time
To make you forget how I wished you were mine
'Cause I know by the book you're off limits
I know I should leave you alone but I can't
'Cause you make glow like the sunrise
And you never knew, you never knew

How Much Longer?
03:13
|
|||
Sittin' by the side of the road
She's listenin' to her mother's
words echo in her ear
21 and now she's out on her own
She's whistlin' like her brother
Used to, to calm her fears
How much longer will the money last?
How much longer til she has to turn around?
How much longer til she stands on solid ground?
Sittin' by the side of the road
She's thinkin' of her father
And how she had to split
A pack of cigarettes, a bottle of rum
And then he'd start to bother
And he never was one to quit
How much longer til the hurting heals?
How much longer til she ever trusts a man?
How much longer til she learns to take a stand?
Sittin' by the side of the road
She's strummin' her old Martin
And hummin' a little tune
She sighs
And bites her lip to keep from startin'
To cry, hopes a car stops soon
How much longer can she keep this up?
How much longer til she gets to where she's bound?
How much longer til she stands on solid ground?

Simpletown
04:35

Oh I'm from counting cars of the railway trains
And the few that make their way down the main street
We like to wave, my friends and I
As they go slowly rumbling by
And make a tally of the ones that wave back
But now the cars are SUVs
The drivers don't see us as they stop at the T
Small-town life is quickly getting faster
Where is Simpletown?
Just looking for a simple town
Where is Simpletown?
Just looking for a simple town
It's been over a year since I heard that lilting tune
That the old white ice cream truck used to play
The new kids don't know what they miss
No sticky wrapper in a grubby fist
No barefoot sprint down to hot summer pavement
And the shops that lined the main street have come and gone
To be replaced by restaurants all chic and trendy
The wooden plaques with painted vines
Have been replaced by neon signs
We're wiping out our history getting hip
Where is Simpletown?
Just looking for a simple town
Where is Simpletown?
Just looking for a simple town
Library built out of the old railway station
Where freight trains used to stop, their cars laden with apples and peaches
Put your ear against the rail
You can hear the whistle of the ghost trains still wail
Feel them rumble down the track
But you know they can't bring Simpletown back
We do our best to try to hold on to our rural past
But Suburbia, it elbows its way through
Developments are moving in
Three-story houses where the trees had been
The road names reminisce to fallen giants
And with development comes change
A drive-by shooting at the new cafe
And arson and murder followed after
Where is the town with the light-hearted laughter?
Where is Simpletown?
Just looking for a simple town
Where is Simpletown?
Just looking for a simple town
Bring me back to Simpletown

Night's Lullaby
04:35
|
|||
It's late at night but I can't sleep
Thoughts keep running through my head
While I lie here in my bed
Tossing and turning
I never seem to sleep at night
But always wander through my mind
Following my fleeting thoughts,
Worries and yearnings
Ya da da da da...
Listen to the wind as it circles the moon
Dancing 'cross the sky and among the stars
Tentatively whispering the secrets of life
The night is ours
Gaze into the shadow of a quiet wood
Watch the fireflies as they flit out of sight
Trace the fragile lines of a spider's web
Follow the night
Ya da da da da...
I writhe around and start to sweat
Tangled in the twisted sheet
As I try to fall asleep
To no avail
And as I lie here breathing deep
The wind comes whispering through the screen
Telling me of what it's seen
Follow the trail
Ya da da da da...
Wander past the willow and the winding stream
Cross the open meadow in the stars' pale light
Dart into the shadow of a hidden cave
Follow the night
Climb up on the mountain in between the stars
Feel the silent power of the waning moon
Let the dark enfold you while the wind starts to sing
The night's soft tune
Ya da da da da...
